The Nationalist Party today said that if its councillors are elected to the Floriana council, they will propose that an elderly home is developed – through a Public Private Partnership – to enable residents who require care to continue to reside in their locality.
This was announced by PN deputy leader Mario de Marco, PN MPs Claudio Grech and Paula Mifsud Bonnici and the candidates contesting the election.
Dr De Marco said that the project would be developed on the site where the department of the exams currently is located, in Mall Street (near Ta’ Sarrija church).
He said that the average age of Floriana’s residents is 50 and over.
Dr de Marco emphasised that councillors – irrelevant which party they represent – should work in the interest of residents.
Mr Grech said that the PN is looking at social roots by addressing these challenges. Such a project, he said, will help deal with the issue now and for generations to come and will make a massive difference for residents.
Dr Mifsud Bonnici emphasised the locality is small but the challenges are big. She said this project will make a concrete difference for the elderly.
The locality currently hosts some 2,000 residents.
