The local council recently withdrew its support of the application after residents complained that they were not consulted.

Birgu Deputy Mayor Trevor Mizzi had said that the local councillors today are not the same as those back then. "We knew as much as the residents".

The Council had recently sent a letter supporting the MEPA bid by the applicant, however this was revoked by the council a s residents claimed that the applicant had told the council that a consultation had taken place, yet, according to the residents, did not.

Apparently some 70 or so signatures were presented to the council by residents expressing their discontent to the council, a resident explained.
