Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) together with the Malta Health Students' Association, MHSA, Betapsi and Inspire, yesterday evening organised an event in the Quadrangle in University to gather students in one place, standing up for Autism Awareness.
Raylene Debattista, Team Leader from Inspire, together with tutors Ema Marie Attard and Karen Decelis exposed the beauty of working amongst youths on the spectrum, and spoke of the great opportunities of integrating into what we do, everyone's unique qualities.
KSU worked hand in hand with Inspire in order to promote on campus the integration of all students and for more information to be shared regarding Autism. Student union's Andrew Borg Wirth spoke of ways that students can truly benefit by putting into practice all that they learn in the lecture room. The lights that were lit in the Quadrangle symbolise the intention to spread more awareness and stand up for this issue.
MHSA's Julia Abela spoke of the activities that were organised, including a painting exercise using darts, paint coloured balloons and a massive jigsaw puzzle. Puzzles are a symbol used to commemorate this day. "This exposed ways that student life and work life can be bridged".
Clara Chetcuti from Betapsi mentioned an Internship Scheme that was coordinated between the KSU and Inspire. "This exploited the full potential of students in the work place, while still on campus, and also discussed the elimination of stigmas".
