Maltese boxer Haithem Laamouz was a surprise draw in Sydney Australia as he won a majority decision bout in his profession debut against former two-time Irish amateur champion Gearoid Clancy.

Laamouz, also known in the ring as Flash, won a points decision in a four-round bout at the Punch Bowl in Sydney. Laamouz was regarded as a bit of an unknown and an underdog for the 61 kilogram lightweight bout. The 30-year-old Clancy was previously undefeated with a professional record of 2 wins and no losses. Laamouz won despite being docked a point for punching on the break. Two judges scored the bout in his favour and one against. Laamouz traisn at Lords'Gym in St Julian's, where he is also a personal trainer. He expressed satisfaction that his hard work in training camp had paid off and that he looked forward to securing his next fight later this year in the professional ranks. "I look forward to taking my career to another level in having joined the professional ranks," he told The Malta Independent.
