New luxury suites at the Intercontinental Hotel, part of a €32 million upgrade of the hotel's existing facilities, were inaugurated yesterday night by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

The €32 million project includes a new Holiday-Inn hotel and a new casino, and is expected to create a total of 350 full-time jobs.

During the event, Dr Muscat said that Intercontinental's investment was particularly welcome since Malta was attracting increasing numbers of tourists looking for luxurious stays.

He also said that Malta was attracting the right type of investors, including high net worth individuals who recognised that the country offered the right environment for their businesses to grow.

But the Prime Minister also said that the country had to do all that was necessary to become a place that "talented and high net worth" people wanted to come to, stating that its infrastructure needed attention, good public services were needed and that the environment was also important.

"Our business-friendly approach and nimbleness to adapt to changing realities will help reach our objectives. Announcing another major investment in Malta yesterday, the Metropolis in Gżira, I said that there should be no limit to our ambition. Indeed, with local and international investors such as yourselves on board, we can be optimistic about the future of our country," he maintained.
