Walkathon in aid of persecuted Christians in missionary lands

On Good Friday, Pope Francis denounced the complicit silence that was easing the persecution of Christians across missionary land.

Inspired by the Pope’s words, Fondazzjoni U (Xandir Socio-Religjuz) decided to organise a solidarity Walkathon (walk) together with our missionary persecuted brethren.

1st May 2015 (Public holiday)

There shall be two departures from Golden Sands (Għajn Tuffieħa) at 9.30am and at 11.30am for those who prefer a shorter route. Those who participate in the 9.30am walk, the walk is 16 km long and will take approximately 4 hours. The shorter walk is 3km long and will take approximately one hour. The walk will begin from outside Apples Eye restaurant at Golden Sands and will end at Manikata Church. Persecuted christians shall be joining us in this walk.

The walk shall take place through some of the most picturesque views in Malta and participants are recommended to bring their photographic cameras, good trekking shoes.

Transport will be provided from Valletta to Golden Sands at 8.45am and at 10.45am and then from Manikata to Valletta .

During the walk, there shall be some stops and refreshments will be served.

After the walkathon, there will be a get together and various presents shall be distributed to the participants. Medals and a certificate of attendance shall be presented to all those who participate in this event against a minimum donation of Eur5.

The walkathon will end at around one pm at Manikata.  Prayers for Persecuted christians  will be recited at Manikata church followed by mass and social activities. For this occasison there shall be a crafts corner and some merchandise to support this cause. This is an occasion that you should not miss.

This event is the beginning of a number of fund raising campaign activities in aid of the missions which will reach its climax  by means of a TV marathon organised by Fondazzjoni U and broadcasted on all national TV stations on the 11, 12 and 13 September 2015.
