An innovative refrigeration technology which operates using solar renewable energy was yesterday launched in Malta by refrigeration experts, Angelo Aquilina Refrigeration Supplies Ltd. This unique technology can save up to a maximum 70% p.a. on peak periods of electrical consumption.
The Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business, Dr. Chris Cardona presided over the launch of the Industrial Solar Cool System. The launch of this new system was held at the Golden Harvest Bakery where this technology has already been installed, in the presence of Angelo Aquilina, company chairman and Mark Aquilina, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Harvest Bakery.
Speaking at the launch of the Industrial Solar Cool System, Justin Aquilina, general manager of Angelo Aquilina Refrigeration Supplies Ltd said that, "Given the data obtained from various industries where this technology has been installed, the energy savings are substantial. Apart from reducing a company's energy overhead, the new technology helps to reduce ongoing equipment maintenance costs, extends the lifespan of the equipment and reduces C02 emissions" together with a good return on investment which is considerably low.
Mr Aquilina added that "The energy absorbed by the solar panels installed with this technology helps to boost the stages of the central mechanism, thereby reducing the number of operating compressors, at any one time. Given that Malta is blessed with 3000 hours of unbroken sunshine a year, makes this technology extremely cost-effective. In markets where this technology has been tried and tested, it is proving to be pivotal in industry due to the huge energy saving costs. Furthermore the installation of this technology can also help Malta to reach its renewable energy targets."
