The Court today ordered police to charge former GRTU Chief Vince Farrugia for perjury and suborning witnesses to give false evidence.
Magistrate Aaron Bugeja was presiding over an application, known as a challenge, where Sandro Chetcuti called on the Court to take action against Vince Farrugia for perjury.
Developer Sandro Chetcuti had called on the police to prosecute Mr Farrugia, after being convicted of having slightly injured Mr Farrugia. Sandro Chetcuti was condemned to a month in jail, suspended for a year.
In her sentencing, then Magistrate Edwina Grima had told police to investigate Mr Farrugia and other witnesses who may have given false testimony, however nothing had happened.
Magistrate Bugeja said that Mr Farrugia made the incident seem more brutal than it actually was.
He found enough prima facie evidence for this case to start. “The court is convinced that Farrugia not only tried to influence witnesses by telling them how and what to testify. He tried painting a picture that the attack was more brutal than it actually was" the Magistrate added.
