Hunters' organisation volunteers to assist law enforcement

Saturday, 18 April 2015, 19:17 Last update: about 10 years ago

Apart from a network of members in Malta and Gozo monitoring their shooting areas for any abuse, Kaccaturi San Ubertu KSU have taken the initiative to patrol the Maltese countryside after shooting hours. Members have volunteered to offer their time and the use of their vehicles in order to assist law enforcement.

KSU said: We urge hunters and members of the public to report any abuse by SMS on KSU's dedicated number 7933 4549 or to contact the Administrative Law Enforcement  ALE on 22942161 or freephone 119. All reports will be treated in strict confidence.

KSU are also conducting their annual spring migration report, monitoring the migration of turtle dove and quail. For the first five days of the season, though several protected species have been noted none of our members witnessed any abuse.

Our observations also point to a late start to the migration of turtle dove and quail with several of our observers not yet seeing any. It is customary for migration of these birds to peak onthe last week of April.

KSU hopes favourable weather will push a few of the millions migrating across the Mediterranean before the season ends on April 30.
