The Union Haddiema Maqghudin this morning expressed solidarity with the employees of Panta Lesco after it was reported that the group will be announcing a number of layoffs.
According to reports, the group will be dismissing some 70 workers because of reduced orders. It is expected that the workers that will be affected work for two of its subsidiaries – Panta Marketing and Panta Contracting. The group employs 260 people.
In a statement, the union said it was showing solidarity with these workers, who are facing a difficult situation that can lead to layoffs. The UHM said that after it was approached by the management on the current situation it took all the necessary measures and was in contact with the companies and requested meetings to better understand the situation and to see how it can help. The union said it is also approaching the workers in its efforts to find a quick solution.
In a separate statement, the Government has initiated talks with a private company following the potential laying-off of about 70 workers.
The Employment and Training Corporation and the Department Of Industrial and Employment Relations will continue to hold talks over the coming days with the management of the company and union representatives to help in any way possible.
The government is committed to help local businesses, as well as their employees and their families, in such challenging circumstances.
Should these employees be laid off, they will find the full support of the Government in finding alternative employment in the shortest time possible.
