YEREVAN, Armenia - The presidents of Russia and France join other leaders at ceremonies commemorating the massacre 100 years ago of 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks, an event which remains a diplomatic sore point for both sides.

GALLIPOLI, Turkey - Families of soldiers who served in the Gallipoli campaign of World War I, along with world leaders, streamed onto the battle sites on Friday for ceremonies marking 100 years since the British-led invasion. 

ITALY-TERROR BLITZ

MILAN - An Italian prosecutor says Islamic extremists suspected in a bomb attack in a Pakistani market that killed more than 100 people had also planned an attack against the Vatican in 2010 that was never carried out. 

KAZAKHSTAN-PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

ALMATY, Kazakhstan - As oil-rich Kazakhstan votes for a president Sunday, the governing elite is pounding home a mantra of stability as fears percolate about the country's massive Russian minority taking inspiration from the Moscow-backed insurgency in Ukraine. SKOPJE, Macedonia - Police says 14 migrants believed to be from Afghanistan and Somalia who were heading north toward the European Union were killed by an express train as they walked along tracks in central Macedonia at night. 

GREECE-BAILOUT

RIGA, Latvia - The eurozone's top official says Greece needs to make "significantly more progress" on its reform plans if it's to get its hands on vital bailout loans. Speaking in the Latvian capital of Riga at the conclusion of a meeting of the eurozone's 19 finance ministers, Jeroen Dijsselbloem says time is running out. 

BRITAIN-HSBC

LONDON - HSBC says it is considering moving its headquarters from Britain in the wake of "regulatory and structural reforms" imposed after the 2008 financial crisis. 

GERMANY-ECONOMY

FRANKFURT, Germany - A closely watched survey of optimism among German businesses shows that confidence grew for a sixth straight month in Europe's biggest economy. The Ifo institute said Friday that its monthly confidence index rose to 108.6 points for April from 107.9 in March. The reading slightly exceeded market expectations for 108.4 points. 

GERMANY-STUDENT-KILLED

BERLIN - An 18-year-old man on trial over the death of German-Turkish student Tugce Albayrak says he regrets his actions. The defendant, identified only as Sanel M., told a regional court in Darmstadt on Friday that he slapped Albayrak in the face before she fell to the ground. SENT: 130 words.

ROMANIA-LUXURY ROBBERS

BUCHAREST, Romania - Prosecutors have detained 14 people who are suspected of belonging to a network of well-dressed robbers who were trained to rob luxury items in Romania and the European Union.
