Watch: Msida resident writes to Prime Minister about 'wild parties' held at University

Monday, 27 April 2015, 12:29 Last update: about 10 years ago

A resident of Msida has expressed disappointment about parties held on the University campus, with the most recent one being last week, following the students’ council elections.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, copied to the media, the resident said that a group of residents have reported loud music after 1am to both the Msida Police Station and the Malta Police Force; however, no action was taken.

On Thursday 23 and Friday 24 April, the loud music was on till after 3am, and residents even reported fireworks being let off close to residential areas. “Do these people have permission for that as well? Or are they just above the law and the police/organisers don't care?” the resident questioned. He argued that the fireworks were not at a right distance from residents and cars, adding that residents feared going up to the terrace to see what was going on.

“Is it acceptable to have fireworks right in front of residents and main roads at three in the morning?  When us people need to wake up early for work in the morning? I am certain that other civilised countries unlike Malta consider these matters. These students are parking and coming out drunk from the parties being held at the university, driving drunk, making noise in the streets and leaving garbage everywhere. And yet nobody cares!” the resident writes.

He said that the University of Malta is providing a bad example, which goes to show “how educated and civilised smart people are”, he writes in a sarcastic manner.

“The University of Malta is breaking the law and nobody's doing anything about it! It seems like they are above the law. Which minister do they know? Shall I take matters in my own hands next time?” he concludes.

The resident also attached photos of the fireworks to the email sent.
