25 cases of electricity theft and smart meter tampering ended up in court in 2014

There were a total of 25 cases related to tampering with smart meters or electricity theft which ended up in court in 2014.

Answering a question put by opposition MP Jason Azzopardi, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said that 25 cases were refered to the police bu Enemalta and all ended up in charges being pressed. 

When the scandal first broke, current incumbent Minister Konrad Mizzi had said 1,000 meters were tampered with. An amnesty scheme was announced and 428 people applied for it.
