The leader of the Nationalist Party, Simon Busuttil, is expected to address an urgent press conference in the wake of charges being levelled against the husband of former Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, The Malta Independent has has learnt.  

PN sources told this newsroom that Dr Busuttil had a private meeting with Mrs Debono in which he told her that her position within the Nationalist Party will be untenable if her husband is charged with allegedly favouring works in private households in exchange of votes.  

Should Mrs Debono not form part of the Nationalist Party any longer, the PN will be facing its second blow in Gozo in the space of one month. Following the drubbing the party received in Gozo during the Local Council elections it must find a way how to consolidate its grass roots in the eventuality that Mrs Debono stops forming part of the party she served for nearly 30 years.
