Three MPs, including two ministers, fail to declare assets on time

Jacob Borg & Duncan Barry Wednesday, 6 May 2015, 09:22 Last update: about 10 years ago

MPs may have moved to a new Parliament building but certain old habits die hard. Three MPs, including Ministers Helena Dalli and Chris Cardona failed to declare their assets by the stipulated 30 April deadline.

Last year, 16 MPs including the Prime Minister failed to declare their assets on time.

Dr Dalli appeared to have tried to pull a fast one, dating her declaration as 30 April 2015, but only filing it yesterday, five days after the deadline.

On the PN’s side, MP Albert Fenech failed to file his asset declarations on time.

Going a step further, Labour MPs Joe Debono Grech, Joseph Farrugia and Charles Mangion have yet to file their declarations.

All MPs who served during the year 2014 were obliged to file their declarations – an obligation that Marie Louise Coleiro Preca – who became president in April 2014 – failed to abide by.

Karmenu Vella – who, despite resigning from Parliament in October 2014 to take up his role as EU Commissioner – still filed his declaration... and on time.
