Vittoriosa FC says it is extraneous to match-fixing probe in Italy

Vittoriosa FC have said that they are extraneous to the investigation into match-fixing which has involved their former team manager Felice Bellini.

Bellini was among 50 people arrested or wanted by the Italian police in connection with an investigation into match-fixing in Italy’s lower divisions.

Two Maltese persons, Adrian Farrugia, former team manager of Mosta, and Robert Farrugia, council member of Msida St Joseph, are also wanted by the Italian police.

In a statement issued this morning, Vittoriosa FC said that Mr Bellini was team manager on a voluntary basis and was never under contract with the club. His involvement was in the search of players who might be interested in playing for Vittoriosa, so much so that he was in Malta only once during the past season.

All association with Bellini ended with the end of the season, the club said.
