A cyclist injured in a traffic incident some 13 years ago has been awarded almost €68,000 in damages.
Cyclist Stephen Camilleri told a Court that he suffered permanent injury after he was run over by driver Wayne Farrugia while cycling near Porte des Bombes in October 2002.
Mr Justice Joseph Micallef heard how Mr Camilleri used to cycle from Swieqi to his Marsa workplace daily.
He told the Court that he was cycling along the inner lane of the road and signalled he was about to switch to the outer lane, when he was hit by Mr Farrugia.
Mr Farrugia said he was not responsible for the accident as it was Mr Camilleri who changed lane.
The Court ruled that the brake marks left by Mr Farrugia were only nine metres long, indicating that he had not noticed the victim changing lane in time.
He was therefore found responsible for the accident and ordered to pay €67,860 in damages.
