Former FMS CEO files judicial protest against PM, Health Minister over 'false' waiver allegations

Monday, 25 May 2015, 11:39 Last update: about 10 years ago

Former Foundation for Medical Services (FMS) CEO Brian St John has filed a judicial protest against Health Minister Konrad Mizzi and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat over allegations that he hid documents about a waiver given to the contractors who built Mater Dei hospital.

In the protest, Mr St John said that during a television programme yesterday, Dr Mizzi implied that the former CEO was responsible for the waiver and knowingly hid the documents in a safe.

Mr St John said in the judicial protest that he did not have access to the safe in question, and the FMS was only set up one year after Mater Dei hospital became operational.

The waiver documents in question were not under his remit, Mr St John said.

During his tenure as CEO up until the time he resigned – without being asked to give a handover – Mr St John said at no point was he involved with the actual building of Mater Dei, and he did not sign any waiver documents.

Mr St John also pointed out that the same allegations repeated by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat are untrue.

He called on Dr Muscat and Dr Mizzi to retract the “false allegations.”
