Nationalist Party says retired judge leading inquiry on foundation where son works

Tuesday, 26 May 2015, 16:25 Last update: about 10 years ago

The Nationalist Party today said the government has not taken any action to correct a conflict of interest which was reported in the PN media today – that of having a retired judge, Philip Sciberras, leading an investigation on the concrete used at Mater Dei Hospital when his son Alex is secretary to the board of the Foundation for Medical Services.

In a statement, the Opposition asked whether it is true that Alex Sciberras is taking part in the inquiry proceedings, asking questions to witnesses appearing before the board of inquiry.

If this is so, the PN said, the conflict of interest is double – 1) the inquiry is led by a judge who is the father of a person working in a foundation which is being investigated; 2) a perspn working for the foundation is asking questions to witnesses.
