Malta lost golden opportunity to participate in establishing peace in Libya – Alleanza Bidla

Thursday, 28 May 2015, 17:53 Last update: about 10 years ago

Following the publication of letters sent by the Tripoli government to the Maltese authorities by The Malta Independent, Alleanza Bidla published a statement saying that government has breached international protocol by not sending any reply. It had failed to reply despite it claiming the need of stability in Libya, the party said.

Documents obtained by The Malta Independent show that the Libyan authorities sent several requests to the Foreign Affairs Ministry and then to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, asking a meeting to be held in Malta. However, five months on, the government has not yet acknowledged these letters, let alone replied.  Malta has followed the European Union and the United Nations in recognizing the Tobruk parliament.

Alleanza Bidla said that the government has failed to take the wise decision and is doing its utmost for Libya to remain divided, while joining the EU‘s military campaign in Libyan territories.

“The government is engaging in the wrong behavior and breaching Malta’s constitution. Furthermore, It has lost a golden opportunity to participate in establishing peace in Libya.”

The party said it will continue working to ensure unity in Libya and to ensure the constitution is respected.
