Maurice Degiorgio, founder of Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, dies aged 91

Maurice Degiorgio, founder and chairman of the Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, has died, aged 91.

Mr Degiorgio was employed as a librarian by the British Institute in Valletta and during World War II served as a lieutenant with the RMA.

In 1945, he established the Maurice de Giorgio Limited to import building material. In 1961 he merged with Joinwell Lts as shareholder and director.

Mr Degiorgio was secretary and council member of the Federation of Malta Industries.

He was also a member of the Manoel Theatre Management Committee and in 1992 elected chairman of the Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti.

In 1995 he was invested with the Order of Merit of the Republic of Malta.
