Fiorentina has sacked coach Vincenzo Montella "for the good of the club."
Montella, who led Fiorentina to fourth in the Serie A this season, angered club bosses after a perceived lack of commitment to the club. The 40-year-old was keen to cancel a 5 million euro release clause on his contract, which had two years left to run, with Napoli and AC Milan reportedly interested.
In a statement, Fiorentina says it views Montella's recent actions undertaken "as a clear attempt to get out of a contract he signed less than two years ago because it includes a clause that he no longer holds to be in his interest."
The club adds it expected to see him "behave in a clearer, more respectful, and less ambiguous manner towards the club and the fans that have given him so much."
