Milenco had the world in his hands. He was the heir of Barcellon's Diego Garcia Department Stores, one of the biggest in the whole of Spain.  He was filthy rich. Yet life wasn't a picnic. In fact he was a sandwich short of a picnic. An airplane he was piloting crashed leaving him hanging on to life by a breather. A piece of splintered bone lodged itself unto his brain and surgeons told him that his chances of survival are fifty-fifty. A slight shift of the bone and he is dead. He was a prisoner of his own destiny knowing that any day now death will call on him unexpectedly. He was completely at destiny's beck and call

Alexandra is a young, inexperienced peasant girl, coming from a down to earth family from one of the remote rural villages of Spain. Little did she know the meaning of bright lights of a metropolitan city? Not even in her dreams. Her treasured aim was to get engaged and finally get married and raise a family. But paths which seem to be an easy stride sometimes turn into a nightmare. And what seemed a normal way of life to Alexandra suddenly turns out to be an unexpected roller-coaster.

What triggered this? Why did her fiancé suddenly look at her with disdain and leave her helplessly speechless. What could she have done to deserve this? Why did her life suddenly turn sour, bitter and full of hatred?

How do these two unfortunate souls find themselves embroiled with each other? How could they untangle these unbearable frustrations when they themselves are poles apart? Both are hard-headed. Both are unreasonable. Both are full of spite.

Alexandra is the third book by Vincent Scerri and this edition is published by Horizons.
