A total of 81,816 citations and tickets were given by police to drivers in Malta and Gozo in 2013, with 72, 027 issued in 2014.

The information was tabled in Parliament by Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela, following a Parliamentary Question by PN MP Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici.

In 2013, over 10,000 tickets for illegal parking were issued, with 9,500 issued in 2014.

An interesting statistic regards driving on the wrong side of the road, where in 2014 alone, 296 tickets were issued.

As for persons using a mobile while driving, 0ver 4,000 tickets were given in 2013.
