First Yoyogurt outlet at Bay Street

Thursday, 2 July 2015, 10:23 Last update: about 10 years ago

Yoyogurt, an Italian franchise offering top quality fresh frozen yoghurt with locally sourced fresh fruit and crêpes, has opened its first store in Malta at the Bay Street Tourist Complex in St George's Bay, St Julian's.

Founded in the north-western province of Piedmont in 2001 by two brothers who do not have the same surname, Gregorio Fiumara, 54, and Daniele Laino, 45, Yoyogurt has spread like wildfire in less than a decade and a half, with over 150 outlets in Italy and across Europe.

Gregorio, formerly an estate agent, and Daniele, an IT salesman, came together in 2001 to explore a new line of business and thanks to their passion for quality and genuine food products, Yoyogurt was born.

The concept is to create your own frozen yoghurt ice-cream. The yoghurt is low fat with little sugar. You then have choice to mix in fresh or dried fruit, chocolate, biscuits, almonds, nuts, hazelnuts, cereals, fruit syrup, sweet sauces and chocolate creams.

The fresh, seasonal fruit is to be locally sourced and will be served chilled. The cereals will be fresh and not caramelised. There is a choice of 3o fruit syrups and sweet sauces to enhance the flavour and create your unique blend.

Yoyogurt uses quality products to enhance the taste but also to ensure that the end product is totally healthy. Apart from crêpes, you can also have a selection of fillings in mousses, brioches and flavoured cannoli pastry. You will have the opportunity to either enjoy your snacks on site or as a take away.

Among the other European countries apart from Italy where Yoyogurt has opened franchised outlets there are Spain, Austria, France, Germany, Belgium, Romania and Poland.

The Malta outlet is to be operated by Marco Nonnari and Angelo Vigliaturo, who hail from southern Italy. Commenting on the opening of Yoyogurt in Malta, Marco said: "For us there are three important factors: the product image, the positioning of the outlet within a prestigious shopping complex and the relationship we intend to establish with the public.

"Our choice of outlet at Bay Street was a natural one, given that they have such a high footfall and that a good proportion of them are also tourists," he said.

The Yoyogurt store in Malta is located on Level 1 at Bay Street (across the bridge and to the left past Swarovski). It will be open from Monday to Sunday from 10am to 10pm.
