Edited video of bus terminus incident involving Hungarian student goes viral

Thursday, 2 July 2015, 09:17 Last update: about 10 years ago

An edited version of the PBS footage showing how police mishandled a situation involving a black Hungarian student at the Valletta terminus has gone viral on Facebook.

The footage, edited by Mario Cachia, has been shared by nearly 4,000 users and had 1,245 likes, while more than 142,000 thousands have viewed the way Daboma Jack tried to organise a line at the bus terminus to lessen the chaotic way people were queuing up.

But instead of finding collaboration, the man was spat at by a Maltese woman in a racially-abusive way and, to top it all, he was arrested by police. One can hear other Maltese people inciting the officers to arrest the man.

Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela has ordered an inquiry.

This video has been edited to raise awareness on racism in Malta.
