Malta’s Home Affairs and National Security Ministry to collaborate more with Libya

Saturday, 4 July 2015, 15:34 Last update: about 10 years ago

The Home Affairs and National Security Ministry is willing to collaborate with and provide services to the Libyan Internal Affairs Ministry in light of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2014.

The possibility of more collaboration was discussed in a meeting which Minister Carmelo Abela had with Libyan Minister Mustafa Omam Ali Dabishi. The technicalities of the cooperation will be discussed in more detail shortly.

Minister Abela insisted that for stability in the Mediterranean, a solution for Libya’s political situation needs to be found. The internal political instability is the cause of the irregular immigration phenomenon. Despite measures the European Union is taken, Libya plays a crucial role in finding a solution.

The two ministers discussed the need to protect frontiers, the fight against human traffickers and the terrorism phenomenon in Sirte and Derma.
