What is Core Green's mission?
Core Green is a micro green company based on green principles offering organic, fair-trade and natural products with the aim of making a healthier lifestyle accessible to as many people as possible with value for money products and services. We work to promote well-being through respect to natural resources and the community and by encouraging sustainable practices. We work ethically and only with other companies that pledge to work fairly for the benefit of all.
What kind of events have you organised in the last few years?
We have organised a number of educational events including pop-up cafes, interactive presentations, walks, meals and social gatherings around green themes like conservation of water, clean and non-genetically modified food, organic farming, perma-culture and green and toxic free homes.
Do you recommend certain companies and products which can help people adopt a healthier lifestyle?
Organic farmers are a prime source of good clean fruit and vegetables. Health Shops are a good starting point as they supply a vast array of products which cater for a healthier lifestyle which include food and also eco-cleaners. A number of the health shop owners are knowledgeable and helpful and ready to assist and advise clients. Organisations like Home Economists in Action, Malta Organic Agriculture Movement, food bloggers like The Vongo, Healthlicious, Leila Love Life, Hubblebubblebrew and Eat In My Kitchen also offer guidance.
Are there any future Eco Events you would like our readers to know about?
We have a number of holistic events in the pipeline, with the aim of promoting a healthier lifestyle, such as themed pop-up cafes for alternative socialising over a cup of fair-trade coffee and an organic dessert and a workshop about the benefits of organic coconut oil and pure coconut water. Email [email protected] for more information and invitations.
24 Ways to Detox Your Home & Body
Imagine waking up without an ache or pain, cruising through your day with energy and ending it by enjoying a refreshing night's sleep. Then, imagine waking up to do it all over again. Think it's impossible? Think again. The key is eliminating toxins from your body and your life. Toxins can leave you feeling sluggish, achy, heavy, and out-of-shape. They can also be a factor in the development of chronic diseases like cancer, arthritis, allergies, and many other serious conditions. Let us free our spaces and breathe in clean fresh air. Also find time to relax, love and connect with family and friends. Wholesome and ethical food, clean healthy homes, knowledge, service and good company will go a long way in helping us to live a more connected, grounded and fulfilling life.
Here's where to start:
1. Eat an organic diet as much as possible. Most foods contain harmful pesticides and genetically-modified organisms. CORE GREEN for organic food (www.coregreen.eu ) for more information.
2. Try to make raw vegetables and juices a large component of your diet. It's easy when you eat a large salad daily and drink a freshly-made juice. Engage in periodic cleanses or detox programmes. Eat at least three of the best detoxifying foods daily.
Some of the best detoxifiers include: broccoli, garlic, spinach, cabbage, sprouts, blueberries, ginger, and turmeric.
3. Stop eating baked goods with artificial colours. They may look pretty but research links food colours and artificial dyes to having toxic effects on the brain and nervous system, particularly among children.
4. Reduce the amount of meat in your diet.
5. Read labels on food products and avoid those with which you are unfamiliar.
6. Avoid synthetic chemicals in personal care products and cosmetics. Read labels and avoid those ingredients with which you're unfamiliar. Definitely avoid any containing: parabens, diethanolamine (DEA), or phthalates.
7. Cut back on alcohol consumption. Alcohol must be filtered by the liver, which has over 500 other functions. Even moderate drinking increases the risk of conditions like breast cancer.
8. Add a water filter to your tap water.
9. Stop microwaving your food. Microwaving changes the protein structure of food making it potentially-harmful to your body. Microwaves also emit radiation that can be damaging to people standing near them.
10. When your cooking oil starts to smoke, it has become toxic to your body. Choose organic cold-pressed coconut oil for cooking since most oils have been heated to high temperatures during processing and are already toxic to the body.
11. Don't heat food or store it in plastic. Most plastic contains bisphenol-A (BPA) that migrates into the food stored in these containers. BPA has been linked to thyroid and other hormonal problems.
12. Toss out the toxins at home and in the garage. Of course, dispose of them properly based on your community's guidelines.
13. Avoid chemical cleaning products in favour of natural cleaning ones. Baking soda, vinegar, or orange oil can replace almost any chemical cleaner.
14. At CORE GREEN we have the concept of Green & Healthy Homes close to our hearts. Not only are we of the opinion that we should eat well but we also believe that living in a healthy home free from toxins and aggressive chemicals is fantastic.
We are introducing a lovely range of green cleaners from Earth Friendly Products. There is an Earth Friendly product for every household, professional and industrial cleaning need, from the best selling ECOS Laundry Liquid, Dishmate Washing-Up Liquid, Wave Dishwasher Liquid, through to Furniture Polish, Window Cleaner, Shower Cleaner, UniFresh Air Fresheners and products designed for babies and pets. Earth Friendly Products are designed for everyone and anyone who wants to retain their good health. They contain no carcinogens, are non-toxic and plant-based. Earth Friendly Products are the type of products sought by people who are concerned about reducing the amount of toxins and in their home and the environment, including those sensitive to allergies.
15. Switch from sponges to natural cloths for cleaning. Most sponges have been treated with a chemical called triclosan, which is toxic to the skin and immune system.
16. Toss the non-stick pans. Teflon, Silverstone and other coatings emit harmful perflourochemicals (PFCs). The EPA classifies them as carcinogens.
17. Choose ecological paints and eco-materials for your home. VOCs are volatile organic compounds, many of which are linked to cancer. Contact SPARKBOW Ltd. (St Venera) Eco and Energy Efficiency materials for home and industry on [email protected] or 23335000 for information.
18. Eliminate mould. A few drops of hydrogen peroxide can be used on a cloth to wipe down walls, floors, and other surfaces to help kill mould. Contact SPARKBOW Ltd. (St Venera) on [email protected] or 23335000 for information.
19. Sauna to help eliminate toxins through the skin in sweat. Of course, consult your physician prior to starting a sauna regime.
20. Stretch daily: yoga, tai chi, and qigong, are excellent.
21. Exercise for 45 minutes daily. Brisk walking, running, cycling, cross-country skiing are excellent choices. Be sure to consult a physician prior to beginning.
22. Exchange massages with a partner. Massage improves circulation and helps move lymph (lymph picks up toxins throughout the body so it can be eliminated).
23. Kick the habit. If you smoke or are exposed to second-hand smoke, quit it.
24. Most perfumes and colognes, scented candles, plug-in air "fresheners," pot pourri, laundry soap, fabric softeners and dryer sheets are loaded with toxic ingredients that have been linked to hormonal imbalances, mood swings, fatigue and many other symptoms. Choose natural scents.
