Young DJ Martin Garrix told The Malta Independent that he often pays for his friends so they could go to tours around the world with him. “The biggest challenge about leading such a life is being away from home. I miss my family; I miss not being there on my friends’ birthdays. So I take my friends on tour with me when I can, I got a whole group over to Malta,” he said.

The 19-year-old DJ ranks at number four on the top 100 DJS list and has worked with a number of well renowned artists and DJs such as Usher, Avicii and David Guetta. “It’s crazy that so many people took the time to vote for me last year. I really don't really know what else to say…it's just crazy. It is overwhelming to work with artists that I'm a fan of myself. It takes a minute to sink in, before I contain my emotions and focus on the music,” he says.

The young DJ explains that music was always what he wanted to do. “What's really special is using something that makes me happy to make others happy. It isin’t about being famous, but rather about being able to do what I love to do to a big crowd,” he says. “In ten years from now I hope I will still be touring, doing shows and making music. It’s great being able to reach new horizons as a producer,”

The DJ will be closing tonight’s ninth edition of Isle of MTV at Floriana. He has previously performed in Malta.  “I love the energy of the Maltese, I love the place in general. I think tonight will be great and I'm very excited.”
