Saturday, 25 July 2015, 14:58 Last update: about 10 years ago

Malta Public Transport will be introducing another 40 new buses into service by the second week of August, the company said in a statement this afternoon. A team of engineers from the company is working closely with Otokarin the Turkish factory of Sakarya to inspect the quality of the manufacturing process of the new buses. Since the beginning of the year, this was the seventh visit by the Malta Public Transport engineering team.

The input in the design process, which was provided by the engineering team of Malta Public Transport, has been very valuable in ensuring that the buses are suitable for the Maltese roads and climate.

The company’s engineering manager, Hector Manuel Astorga in coordination with Vicente Rivas Martinez who is the General Technical Manager of the Group, led the team. A number of Maltese engineers are also currently in Turkey

Earlier this month Malta Public Transport introduced 40 new buses into service. These buses offer an increased capacity of 60 people and an overall better quality of service. The new buses are 9.6 meters long and narrower than the other buses in the fleet, the statement said.

The shorter buses provide increased flexibility andmaneuverability in the narrower roads in Malta. The newbuses are low floor and thus provide easy access for wheelchair and pushchair users. They have two doors, intended to allow people to board and alight from the buses efficiently therefore reducing boarding time. The buses are equipped with a EURO 6 engine and fitted with a six-cylinder Cummins engine, whichare the very latest standards for environmentally friendly public transport.
