Updated (3): Woman found dead in Gozo yesterday did not die from her injuries, autopsy inconclusive

Monday, 27 July 2015, 14:32 Last update: about 10 years ago

The autopsy on a woman found dead in Marsalforn yesterday proved to be inconclusive, with the police saying that she did not die from the injuries she sustained.

Addressing a press conference, Assistant Commissioner Silvio Valletta said the woman sustained a head injury, bruising on her chest and broken ribs.

She has not  yet been formally identified, although a 71-year-old Danish woman was reported missing by her family in the Marsalforn area yesterday.

Mr Valletta said the family did not manage to identify her body, and DNA tests are under way in order to establish if the person found is the same person reported missing.

The woman was out with her family in Marsalforn yesterday and was reported missing some time in the afternoon.

The police confirmed that she was found unclothed, and her personal belongings have yet to be found.

The missing woman does not have a history of mental illness, the police said.

The body was found in a badly-decomposed state.

The police are considering the death as suspicious and therefore all investigations are being carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department.

The police said that anyone with information is asked to contact the police confidentially on 119. A crime conference is expected later.
