The Police Force deserves better, PN Deputy Leader Beppe Fenech Adami said today. Dr Fenech Adami was speaking at a meeting with the Malta Police Association along with PN spokesman on migration Francis Zammit Dimech.
The latest developments in the force as well as ideas on how it can move forward were discussed during the meeting. Reference was made to the problems faced by the police force and certain stories published in the media that “do not reflect well on those tasked with keeping order in Malta.”
Dr Fenech Adami said the police force needs to work to regain the trust and respect of the Maltese people. He mentioned the challenges the police force is facing, including working conditions, a lack of human resources and the “lack investment in equipment and maintenance of police stations across Malta and Gozo.” This is having a negative impact on the morale and effectiveness of the police, he said. The PN Deputy Leader also mentioned the “government introduced addendum that undermines the independence of the police force,” which the MPA opposes.
MPA President Malcolm Bondin said the association has no political affiliations or interests. Its only interests are its members, he said. The MPA, which is now considered as a union, is this year celebrating its 60th anniversary.
