Updated (2): More misery for motorists as road works set for Kappara Junction

Thursday, 30 July 2015, 08:30 Last update: about 10 years ago

While the Coast Road closure continues to cause havoc for motorists, it seems that Regional Road commuters might be next in line for some fuming at the wheel.

Markings spotted at the Kappara roundabout have pointed towards some trenching work that will be carried out in the near future relating to the laying of pipes and services.

It is one of the most congested areas for traffic in the Maltese Islands, and any work there is bound to have a negative impact.

The planned works are to be carried out by Enemalta, and this is set to start in the coming days. Works will be carried out at night and the roundabout will still be accessible to all traffic, with closures being limited to one lane.

This morning, motorists are once again experiencing long delays in arriving to their destination.

Malta Traffic Updates says on its Facebook page that the Mgarr area, one of the alternate routes suggested by Transport Malta for drivers coming down from the north, is clogged with traffic.

There is also a huge congestion between Naxxar and San Gwann.

The single-lane situation between Tal-Qroqq and Msida also led to a traffic jam, with a motorist saying that the time it took him to arrive from Mosta to Valletta is equivalent to the time it would have taken him to go to Rome.
