Eight-one per cent of Maltese citizens believe that the economy is doing well. Statistics issued this week by Eurobarometer show that the sense of optimism is more than double that in other European countries, the Labour Party said in a statement.

The statement continued that the last Eurobarometer survey which was conducted – at the end of the previous administration’s tenure – showed that on 44% had said they felt the economy was doing well at the time. More than half of the Maltese population in 2012 said they felt the economy was not doing well.

During the last survey, 84% said that their financial situation is good. In 2012, 63% of families had said that they were doing fine however the percentage of families who had said that they were not doing well in 2012 was more than double to what has been observed in this week’s survey, the Labour Party said.
