Weekend temperatures set to be close to 40 degrees; first week of August will be very hot

Saturday, 1 August 2015, 06:48 Last update: about 10 years ago

August has started and the hottest month of the year has done so with a bang, as temperatures today and tomorrow are set to be close to 40 degrees Celsius.

Weather sites are predicting 38 and 39 degrees for today and tomorrow, but the humidity at up to 85% will make the temperature seem more like 43 degrees.

Nights will not be much better at 27 degrees and the sea will be at its warmest so far this year, at 28 degrees, offering some respite to those who can make it to the beach.

In spite of the high temperatures, the Health Department has not deemed it fit to issue the usual guidelines for people to stay in the shade as much as possible, wear light clothes and drinks lots of water. We urge people, especially the elderly and the younger generation, to abide by these instructions and seek assistance if they feel unwell.

Temperatures will drop to around 34 between Monday and Wednesday, but are then set to rise again to 36-37 on Thursday and Friday.
