"We are working in silence to give the best service to this country and to have a top ranking Police Force". This was the message given by Police Commissioner, Michael Cassar when he visited the new recruits, whilst on a cultural visit, organised jointly with Heritage Malta in Vittoriosa.

During the visit Mr Cassar spoke about how knowledge in cultural and historical aspects, is a new concept of training given to the recruits. These cultural visits are taking place so that when the recruits are appointed they can assist tourists, particularly those who are visiting places of interests, thus enhancing the service given by the Police to those visiting the country.

This is only part of the training which the 117 recruits are undergoing, both academically and practically. Apart from being taught legal and other Police related subjects at the Police Academy in Ta' Kandja, they are also being deployed at the different Police districts around Malta and Gozo as a job shadowing exercise. They are also being given First Aid training and other rescue-related training. The Commissioner explained that the aim behind the job shadowing exercise is to get first hand experience of what being a Police officer means and to get a better understanding of what a Police officer's day entails. The recruits are also assisting their future colleagues in important events such as village feasts and traffic management amongst others.

The Commissioner encouraged the recruits to take the intensive training provided, seriously. He is also committed to provide more opportunities to all the members of the Police Force in order to strengthen their abilities. Thus the role of the members of the Police Force is truly considered as a professional career.

Mr Cassar explained that currently the Police Force is undergoing needed reforms, in order to provide a better future. "Lead by example in the work you'll be doing and be close and loyal to all the citizens of Malta and Gozo. Performing your duty seriously and with integrity will result in more trust in the Police Force", said Commissioner Cassar.
