The article entitled “Gozo-driving on Third-World country roads” (TMIS, 26 July) is, alas, a very correct summing-up of the disastrous state of Gozo's “roads”.
Everywhere you go you are faced with “roads” (I use the word advisedly) more suitable for horses and donkeys than for motor cars.
Before wasting everybody’s time with endless ruminations on whether Malta and Gozo should be linked by a bridge or a tunnel, the government should really turn its attention to sorting out the abject mess that passes for a “road” network in Gozo. A permanent link would greatly increase the volume of traffic in Gozo. Could the present “road” network cope? I think not.
While our lords and masters ponder on how our “roads” could be improved, perhaps they might consider leasing Gozo out to NASA, which could test their planetary buggies on its roads. After all, if a buggy can cope with the “roads” in Gozo, the surface of Mars or Pluto should be a doddle!
