The accident took place at 10.30am when a Toyota Vitz driven by a 29-year-old of St Julian's was involved in a crash with a Peugeot 208 driven by a Canandia man, who has a Canadian woman as a passenger.

The Maltese woman had to be pulled out of the vehicle by members of the Civil protection Department before being taken to hospital. The woman suffered slight injuries.

The Canadian nationals also revceived treatment at Mater Dei Hospital but their injuries were superficial.

This is the first major crash on the Coast Road since it was re-opened last week.

Long stretches of the road which will be eventually one way are still opened for two-way traffic until the works are concluded.

Transport Malta appealed to to observe traffic signs. The speed limit on this road is 40 Km/h, the road is two-way in various sections and no overtaking is allowed in any section of the road.

Transport Malta is augmenting the road’s safety with signs and other measures; it is important that they are observed, it said.
