A meeting has been held between representatives of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the Malta Employers’ Association and the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) to discuss pending issues concerning the implementation of the measures announced during the last budget to address the employment of persons with disability.
This meeting followed an information session held on 30th July between ETC and company representatives during which the mechanics of the new regulations were discussed. Progress was registered and further meetings are planned in the coming weeks to seek a common understanding which will safeguard employers’ interests and concurrently promote the employment of disabled persons.
Employers have gone on record numerous times, to make it amply clear that this is no charity matter. The concerns expressed are real and can act as a serious hindrance to the successful implementation of the measures.
Both the Malta Chamber and the MEA call on all parties involved to approach discussions with a sense of responsibility as populism now will undermine rather than support the cause we are all striving to achieve.
