Rocks, most probably dislodged by yesterday's storm, got loose and crashed into the sea at Delimara a short time ago, injuring a man who was on a boat underneath the rockface.

The police said that the man is in critical condition.

The man,52 of Gudja, who was with a 51-year-old also of Gudja, was giving first assistance by people who were on other boats nearby. 

He was later taken to shore where an ambulance was waiting to take him to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.

The woman was also injured but her condition is unknown.

A search was carried out in the area by police and members of the Civil Protection Department in case other boats had been hit.
