A considerable amount of jewellery was stolen from a shop in Rabat, Gozo, police said. The theft took place at around 9.40 a.m. this morning.

It has been claimed that persons allegedly entered the shop and asked the shopkeeper to show them some jewellery displayed in the shop window.

The shopkeeper is understood to have put the jewellery back in place but later realised that the jewellery was missing.

Magistarte Joanne Vella Cuschieri appointed a number of experts to assist her in a magisterial inquiry.

District Police and police from the Criminal Investigation Department are investigating.
