Fish farms food dirtying bays in Marsaxlokk Harbour, Birzebbuga council says

Remains of fish farms food is dirtying the beaches in Marsaxlokk Harbour, the Birzebbuga local council said in a statement today. This also includes the Delimara area, and is causing problems to swimmers.

Industrial activity in the port is hindering the entertainment of common citizens. In recent weeks, oil leaks from the Freeport and San Lucjan plan led to the bay being closed to swimming for several days.

The council said there should be a better safeguarding of the beaches against such pollution. Meetings have been held with Transport Malta and the Civil Protection Department on these issues.
