Kalkara residents up-in-arms against wardens after two-way street turned one-way overnight

Kalkara residents are up-in-arms against wardens who are dishing out tickets to unwary drivers after what had been a two-way street for decades was suddenly turned into a one-way stretch.

The residents are complaining that wardens should have been station at the beginning of the road to warn drivers about the new system, rather than wait for them at the end to book them.

“It is a pity that wardens see this as a money-making chance and, rather than serve to educate, are ready to rake in some money,” residents said.

The road in question is Rnella Street, which for many years was a two-way stretch, and which now has been turned into a one-way road.

“A €46.59 fine is not easy to digest,” one driver said.

“Wardens should have been on site as a deterrent for the first few weeks until residents get used to the new system,” she said.
