Part of the Birkirkara bypass was shrouded in smoke this evening as a result of a grass fire.

Dry shrubs caught fire in a field close to the roundabout near the old Vodafone building.

Drivers said the road was for a time covered in a black pall of smoke.

The police said they were informed about the fire.
