Libyan man sentenced to eight months in prison after admitting to theft

A Libyan man today was sentenced to eight months in prison after he admitted to theft.

34-year-old Abdulhamid Saied was charged with stealing about €240 in cash from a vehicle parked in Floriana, for attempting to steal from another vehicle and for relapsing.

In January, Mr Saied was sentenced to seven months in prison after after he was caught red-handed stealing from a bakery in Birzebbuga.

In its considerations, the court noted the early admission and that the accused cooperated with the police. In addition, the stolen assets have been returned to the owner.

The court warned that vehicles parked in public places should be properly locked and valuable objects should not be left inside.

Magistrate Joseph Mifsud presided.
