The MUMN said today it has reached an agreement with the management at Mater Dei Hospital about the engagement of new nurses.
The nurses started work yesterday 1 September and a number of midwives will start work next week. Most of the nurses have already started to follow the organised induction course at the hospital.
Following discussions about proposals put forward by MUMN, a number of agreements have been reached. These include the introduction of an overtime rate for nurses working at the Emergency Unit and better coordination between the Health Department and the Department for Active Ageing.
The Human Resources Department has also introduced a service for nurses working on night shift to respect their work/life balance.
In addition, an agreement has been reached to reduce the traffic congestion in the hospital’s car park each morning.
In a statement, the MUMN said that despite a number of problems still existent, the agreements are a step in the right direction.
