The Nationalist Party deputy leaders are giving contrasting views on Malta’s economic performance, exposing a division that exists between different factions of the party, the Labour Party said in a statement this morning.
Malta has the second lowest unemployment rate in Europe, but while PN deputy leader Mario de Marco last week said that it is of great satisfaction that the private sector continues to be a strong economic performer, PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami yesterday criticised the increase in employment in the public sector.
This increase, the PN said, was in the education and health sectors. Is Dr Fenech Adami now saying that nurses and teachers should not be employed, the PL asked.
The PN’s negativity is emanating from the faction led by leader Simon Busuttil and Dr Fenech Adami, the PL said.
