Collaborative effort between Bank of Valletta and The Gozo Business Chamber
Bank of Valletta teamed up with The Gozo Business Chamber to organise an afternoon seminar focused on providing the Gozo Business Community with an overview of the world of international trade finance. The seminar was held at the bank's branch in Victoria, Gozo.
In his opening address, Alfred Attard, chief officer SME Finance explained how Bank of Valletta has invested in the expertise of its people in this area of banking that requires years of experience and sound knowledge of the instruments available, the different players involved in the transactions and the risks associated with the undertaking of such business.
"This seminar fits perfectly with the bank's strategy to deepen client relationships and offer them added value. Our people put their years of expertise and specialisation at the disposal of the bank's clients with the objective of providing them with the best banking solutions possible. Meanwhile, such initiatives enable us to communicate regularly with the business players, keeping them abreast with relevant trends and legislations, while helping them to improve the way they do business," he added.
The presentations were delivered by Carmel Borg and Mario Darmanin, both senior people at BOV's Trade Finance Centre. Sharing almost 50 years of experience in the Trade Finance sector, they have sound knowledge of a broad cross-section of markets and the measures one should take when operating in this world. During their presentations, they delved into the risks involved, particularly those related to cross border trade and the measures available to mitigate them.
"At Bank of Valletta, we have built a reputation for guiding our clients every step of the way. We have a thorough knowledge of the trade finance world and we invest time and resources to assist our clients, ensuring they comprehend the whole procedure," said Mr Borg.
Commenting on the success of the seminar, Michael Grech, president of The Gozo Business Chamber expressed his satisfaction at the turnout and thanked Bank of Valletta for taking the initiative. "It is a priority for the Chamber to assist the business community in Gozo by providing our members with the knowledge and tools available to expand their horizons."
Following on the keen response to this seminar, Bank of Valletta will be partnering with The Malta Chamber of Commerce Enterprise and Industry to organise another event at the BOV Centre Sta Venera on 9 October between 1 and 5pm.
