The Prime Minister has spent around €190,000 on travel since October 2014 to July 2015, an answer to a Parliamentary Question has revealed.
His most expensive trip costed €17,782, when he attended the 2nd EU-Asia Financial Services Symposium in Hong Kong. The same amount was spent on another trip to Frankfurt and Doha. Both of these trips occurred last May.
He said that on his trips, he has been accompanied by members of Cabinet, members of his Parliamentary Group, officials from his Secretariat, other government officials and once by his wife.
Back in December 2014, Dr Muscat had spent nearly €300,000 on travel since taking Office, thus this has risen to nearly half a million spent.
Another Parliamentary Question asked for the expenses and reasons for travel from those within the Office of the Prime Minister, from the Parliamentary Secretariat and from entities that fall under his remit between October 2014 and August 2015..
The amount came to around €107,000. The most expensive trips in this regard were to Malaysia for the 5th Commonwealth Ministers' Forum on Public Service Transformation and other internal meetings, which costed €28,857
The Parliamentary Questions were both posed by PN MP Kristy Debono.
