Opposition expects budget to distribute wealth in a just way, not just for the few

The Opposition is expecting the budget to distribute wealth in a just way and not just among the few.

In a statement, the Opposition said that economic growth did not result in a better distribution of the wealth generated. Instead, we have some 100,000 at risk of poverty, including an increase of 2,500 elderly people in the past year.

Malta has the highest fuel prices in Europe in spite of the price of oil going down to its lowest level in many years. At the same time, a small group of people are swimming in money just because they are close to Joseph Muscat and his friends.

Monday’s budget is a test for the Labour government. We will see if the government is ready to listen to those crying out for help, including families with low income, minimum-wage earners and elderly people, the PN said.

It also called for a reduction in the price of energy since the government can buy power at lower rates via the interconnector, as well as a reduction in the price of petrol and diesel.
